Is It Good to Target 1 Keyword Per Niche Site?
Posted on February 23rd, 2010 5 commentsI recently received an email from a blog reader and thought I’d expand my response into a blog post.
I hope he doesn’t mind me sharing part of his email here
"With google sniper, I am mainly focusing around 1 keyword per site. But I am curious what you do for your niche sites. I like google sniper, but I am thinking I could expand these sites to include multiple keywords, but I haven’t tried yet.
I am focusing on getting 50 sites up by June 1st. So I build them and then forget them. After June, I will go back and see which sites need backlinks and all that jazz.
But I am mainly curious if youre building around 1 keyword or multiple keywords per site, and possibly the criteria you use to choose a keyword."
As per my reply to the above email, I explained how I usually target one keyword per page rather than just one per site. Although I might build a site around one particular product, there are still multiple keywords to target. I do feel it’s a waste of a domain name targeting just one phrase when there’s nothing to lose by adding more content to attract more visitors via organic search results.
Inevitably a page will also attract other unexpected keyword searches in addition to the one you are targeting anyway, particularly if you’re posting relevant content that is of a decent length and containing LSI terms. Checking your stats and logs will always show visitors finding your site via keywords you’d never imagined or researched yourself. That is exciting stuff!
I don’t know anything about the ‘Google Sniper’ method – I don’t read many ebooks and the like. I focus on good old fashioned quality content rather than studying search numbers. My philosophy is that I want to target ALL keywords – that of course takes time but why target just one keyword when you can, over time, target hundreds?
Nothing wrong with setting up a bunch of sites, letting them age, and then coming back to them a few months later. I do that often, but don’t abandon adding more content just because you are only interested in one keyword… you will be missing out on a whole lot of traffic and missing the opportunity to build your site up into an authority and a popular and respected resource in your niche.

I agree Rebecca. I tried Google sniper and did see some results but i did not feel like i was working on long term projects with most of those sites. good for quick cash maybe?
Thanks for leading me to this post. -

Hi Rebecca, thanks for the interesting post as usual! I assume you are talking about niche-related keywords on the one site, not totally different niches? What’s an LSI term?
Thanks, Rachel -
Let me comment that the upcoming CB Predators by Chris Fox will be perfect for anyone using Google Sniper. The reason is that CB Predators can make sites like the sniper sites by George Brown. So, simply spoken…you will be able to make those web sites a lot faster and can sell more clickbank products. I am sure that George Brown will give this approval since it seems just optimal for this purpose. As a Google Sniper user i am pretty much looking forward to this.
